Death and taxes Do i have to file taxes on behalf of my mother who passed away in November 2007? |
Answer 1/1 - Submitted 2/2/2008
That is a good question!!
You will fill out your mother's tax return just like she would have done including all her taxable income and dependents....
Then you (or the executor if not you) will sign the tax return with her signature on the taxpayer's signature line and under that signature will sign Yourname and put executor/Power of Attorney and attach a copy of his power of attorney papers..
Also, in BOLD letters on the front of the 1040 or 1040A you will print the following:
mother's name
deceased date.
